As of Jan. 1, 2026, Belgian entrepreneurs will have to use e-invoicing in their B2B-transactions. This obligation is not unfamiliar territory; since March 2024, e-invoicing (also known as “digital invoicing”) is already a must for invoices addressed to government agencies for contracts over €3,000. Want to know more about e-invoicing? Then read this article.
This new regulation means not only a change in the way companies do business with each other, but also that many companies will have to invest in new software that is adapted to this new way of working. In this article you will read everything you need to know before investing in new software!
What software do you need for e-invoicing?
For the practical creation of digital invoices, the choice was made to work with the PEPPOL network. This is a standardized European system that connects a company immediately with all other participants after a one-time connection. The PEPPOL network is also already used by several EU member states, which makes the transition for Belgian companies easier and allows invoicing between companies from different member states to run smoothly.
However, you are not required to use the PEPPOL network to generate your digital invoices. The government allows you to deviate from it. So companies can choose to still use another system, provided that it complies with the general European rules regarding meaning lexicon or semantics (the meaning of words) and grammar.
Since digital invoices follow a fixed structure and form, it is smart to look for a system that takes care of the automatic processing of these invoices. Such software not only promotes the efficiency of your work processes, but also helps in the smooth integration of international transactions.
Our Go Getter platform includes an extremely user-friendly invoicing program that ensures a smooth transition to e-invoicing and offers many benefits such as effortless e-invoice creation, an overview of all invoices and their payment status, and the ability to send invoices from within the program itself.
What does e-invoicing software cost?
The cost of an e-invoicing software program depends on the software program you choose. In addition, the Belgian government has provided a number of tax benefits for companies wishing to invest in an e-invoicing software:
- To facilitate the transition to digital invoicing, the Belgian government has provided a temporary increased cost deduction for digital investments, including the investment in e-invoicing software. Investments can be deducted at an increased rate of 20% from the 2025 tax year.
- For small companies, there is even a temporary cost deduction of 120% for the rental of software packages for digital invoicing and consulting costs. This temporary cost deduction takes effect on January 1, 2024 and applies from tax year 2025.
- Businesses can enjoy these tax breaks until tax year 2029 for tax periods beginning on or after Jan. 1, 2028.
Our Go Getter software qualifies for this temporary increased cost deduction of 120%. This means that Go Getter clients not only benefit from a user-friendly and smart digital invoicing solution, but also from great tax benefits.
